INTRODUCTION

  • NSS was introduced by Govt. of India in the year 1969.
  • The aim, to develop a sense amongst the students in nation building through social work, understanding the social environment, responsibilities and enriches his/her personality through actual participation.
  • “Not me but you” motto underlines that the welfare of an individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society as a whole.
  • The symbol of NSS is based on “Rath” wheel of konark Sun Temple of Orissa.
  • This grant wheel portrays the cycle of creation, preservation release and signifies the movement in life across time and space.
  • The symbol embossed on the NSS badge. The NSS volunteers wear while undertaking various programs of community services.
  • Red color badge indicates NSS volunteers are active, full of life and spirit.
  • The navy blue color indicates the cosmos of which NSS is tiny part ready to contribute its share for welfare.
  • Every year, 24th Sep is celebrated as NSS day.
  • Various competitions, seminars, workshops etc. are organized along with spiritual lectures of national leaders.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE

The overall objective is education. Service to community is the activity through which this objective is attained.

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

  • To arouse the social consciousness of the students by providing them opportunities to work with and among the people.
  • To provide with rich and meaningful educational experiences to them in order to make their education complete and meaningful.
  • To give them the opportunities for their personality development.
  • To develop an awareness and knowledge of social realities to have concern for the well being of the community and engage in creative and constructive social action.
  • To develop skills needed in the exercise of democratic leadership and programme development to help them get self-employed.
  • To provide a platform to apply technical knowledge to solve the social issues for community development.
